Windows

On Windows, run toryo inside Ubuntu on WSL2. It is not a PowerShell command. A native Windows CLI is not planned for this design. Board is a native Windows desktop shell; its CLI and backend run in Linux.

Install the Linux CLI inside Ubuntu#

Open the Ubuntu terminal or its Windows Terminal profile, then follow the Linux CLI installation instructions there. Simply opening Ubuntu does not install toryo. Installing Board or Ubuntu alone, or reaching a failed Board provisioning screen, does not establish a working CLI.

Board defaults fresh installations to Ubuntu-24.04. Other supported WSL2 distributions can be selected; TORYO_WSL_DISTRO overrides the distribution Board connects to, not the bootstrapper's fresh-install default. Run the Linux CLI in the terminal for the distribution you selected.

The Linux & WSL2 guide covers supported distributions, signature verification, systemd and filesystem placement. The CLI, services and database all run inside that Linux environment.

Board on Windows#

An unsigned NSIS installer is available as a workflow test artifact, not a published Windows release. It carries a Linux CLI payload and creates no Windows toryo command or Windows PATH entry. Board's bootstrapper can install WSL2 and its default Ubuntu distribution, then attempt CLI provisioning. Signing and release publication remain outstanding.

Verification boundary#

In the operator's reported Windows 11 test, the NSIS installer completed and Board reached provisioning after roughly 30 seconds of a blank window. Provisioning failed, and CLI execution was not demonstrated on that installer path. The supplied report attributed the failure to directly spawning the Linux payload. That is a report about the tested installer, not a diagnosis of current source: newer source routes the bundled command through WSL and adds failure telemetry, but those changes have not been validated here on Windows.

A running Board shell does not prove successful CLI provisioning or a working backend lifecycle. The reported install also does not verify SmartScreen, UAC, reboot/resume, or service lifecycle behavior.

After successful Linux CLI installation, run toryo doctor --json inside Ubuntu (or your selected WSL2 distribution) and report the result through Feedback.
